Doppelgänger

Paul Emory
Doppelgänger
Portfolio 2(Presentation)
April 10, 2014

Noah Levin
My Doppelgänger(for today)

I chose Noah Levin for my doppelgänger report because he is in a role that i want to achieve. Noah is an Interaction Designer at Google working on the search team. I could find a number of people out there that have job I want because honestly I can be happy doing a lot of things. However, Noah’s job is one that I find very interesting. First of all he is working at Google as an interactive designer, that alone speaks to me beyond compare to any other position I can come up with right now. I would love the chance to work for a company like Google, and especially Google. Above just the company he is on the Google search team. A huge number of people will be affected by his effectiveness and anything he brings to the table. And has been working on the project of enhancing the Google search on iOS solo. Yes he himself is the interactive design lead for the search app process for iOS after only working at Google for three months. What an amazing accomplishment. I enjoyed finding out more about Noah because the things that drive him are what i feel like drives me. i also am quite fond of the things he has done in the past. Noah recently received his Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction from CMU. He also did his undergrad there studying Information Systems with a Minor in Design. I relate in someways with a history of computer technology and other types of schooling and work. Why this make me feel like he is my “Doppelgänger” is because of the way we think about what can be done for the future of the internet and how people use it.
The other thing that caught my attention about Noah is that he worked with a Capstone project with NASA. He worked with a group of 5 masters students in Carnegie Mellon's Human-computer Interaction Institute with a task to design an efficient planning interface for real-time execution of human space missions at NASA. I am not saying that I have done something similar but I feel like I think about things the same way. The user is the main thought in what has driven the push of our society and is what will push many of us to better things and create new possibilities that will make life better and easier for everyone. This is what I see as beautiful. Designing for the user, not just to create something that looks awesome, but to have things work in a way that we flawlessly understand and can use without effort.
I no doubt about it want to be an employee of Google, but the reason I feel like Noah is my “Doppelgänger” is the status he has to give the user the power to take control of the device he is designing for. I plan on bettering myself in the interactive design field until I retire, and even then i will try and help in any way I can to still assist in making everything beautiful and easier to use.
